Description

Sachiko is a geomancy focused mage kitsune created for a Legends of the Five Rings campaign a friend of mine was running.  As a kitsune, she was able to change back and forth between her human and fox shape, but couldn't completely get rid of traits of the opposite form.  (She retains her tail and ears in human form, while retaining her eyes in fox form.)  She wears a bit less clothing than most because her clothing doesn't shape change with her, so she needs to be able to remove and hide her clothes quickly if need be.  She has a bit more natural defense as a fox than as a human through her natural agility, and can also cast her spells as a fox without the need to say the words of the spell aloud, which made her a really good scout for the group.  Her knowledge of plants, medicine, and ability to use her magic to grow what she needed from seeds in her apothecary's pack to serve as a renewable source of medicine for both healing and for turning a profit selling medicines to local villages.  (Usually bartering the medicine for lodging, food, or other materials the group might need rather than money.)  She also had a bit of the Kitsune mischief to her personality, as she loved to play tricks and practical jokes from time to time.
I've had the inked version sitting around for a while now, but finally started getting the old artistic bug back and used this as a way of christening my Copic flesh tone marker set.  I don't know if it was a faulty marker, or just the cheap bristol art boards (went the cheapest route on my last order from Blue Line Pro, and they're pretty thin compared to what I usually use) but I found a few times when the marker suddenly bled out when doing the shadows.  (ie: her neck on the sitting pose)  I found that my Mustek scanner doesn't pick up marker colors as well as the old HP I did.  (If my old scanner did 11x17, I'd still be using it.  Or if it had drivers to work with Windows 7 or 8.1.)  They seem to bleach out quite a bit.  I know there's always some differences between what you see and what the color shows up in the light spectrum, but I'd noted the problem on earlier items I colored as well.  I still think it looks pretty good overall after some adjustments, and I had a lot of fun revisiting this particular drawing.  I'd love to mess around with this character again, but sadly the campaign she was in folded after only a session or two.  She may pop up as a supporting character in other stories though.
