Description

My first original inked work in a while, which is a character I created in The Old Republic.
Asylin Drace is a bounty hunter character I play on Ebon Hawk on The Old Republic.  Her mother died from an illness when she was young, leading her to want to become a doctor when she grew up.  Her Father was a somewhat successful businessman, who doted on her.  However, he had a gambling problem, which got worse over time.  When Asylin was in medical school, a bad bet left her father in a bad situation.  In order to clear his debt, he offered up Asylin as a doctor for the Exchange if they would finish off paying for her schooling.  The Exchange agreed to the terms, but had no interest in using Asylin as a doctor.  Instead, they were going to sell her into slavery, but she fought back when they went to collect, resulting in her face being scarred in the fight.  Instead, they threw her into the gladiator pits, where her tenacity and skill at improvising kept her alive until a bounty hunter named Taneris was in the pits scouting it for a hit on the same Exchange bosses who had thrown Asylin to the masses of the arena.  Impressed with her skill, he did some quick holonet searches and found out she was a med student.  With his own team's medic was temporarily unable to go into the field on account of being a few months along into her pregnancy, and another of his team away for personal reason, Taneris felt the find was divine providence.  He snuck and bribed his way into see her, and made her an offer:  Stay in the gladiator pits until she died, or come work for him as an equal member of his crew as a fellow bounty hunter.  Asylin agreed, and the deal gave Taneris his in to get to the Exchange bosses.  While others of his team set up demolition charges as to keep suspicion away from him, Taneris dropped a small holotransmitter in the room that enabled him to see when the Exchange bosses were all gathered together.  He paid a small fortune (pretty much everything he was going to earn on his hit, and a bit more) to get Asylin's contract, but succeeded in getting her slave contract transferred to him.  As they left, the holorecorder showed that their targets were right where they wanted.  Taneris offered Asylin the detonator, giving her the opportunity to end that chapter of her life on her own terms.
Taneris's wife wasn't exactly thrilled with his buying a slave, let alone a female one.  It took some talking down, but once she heard Asylin's story, his wife accepted her and became fairly protective of her.  The road to Asylin becoming a bounty hunter wasn't without it's bumps in the road.  More than once she gunned down a target they were supposed to take alive to get the bigger bounty because of the crime the target was guilty of.  Other times she was a bit too sympathetic to a target once she had found out the target was innocent and would let them get away or give them too much slack.  Not to mention that Asylin proved to be a bit of clumsy in her bulky armor at first.  Overall, she proved herself an invaluable member of the crew, meshing well with the group of oddball bounty hunters.

Yeah, every character I have in the MMOs I've played has been given some kind of back story.  Actually, aside from friends who kept saying they'd help me level in World of Warcraft, (yet never did because they were too busy with the endgame stuff yet kept telling me to hurry up and get to said end game stuff.  Well, one friend did help out quite a bit, and another did run raids from time to time to help me try to get gear, but that was once I maxed out in levels.)  each of my characters in WoW had a full back story, several of which have been adopted into one of my fantasy series as supporting characters.  I do the same thing with D&D characters I create.  A Shifter scout I did for a one shot game is the innkeeper in that fantasy story, having retired after the critical miss I took that cost him a leg.  While the healers were able to reattach the limb, the muscles and nerves didn't heal right due to the scaring, ending his adventuring days.  The money he made from that campaign paid for his inn, where the main character rents a room.  I wish more MMOs would give the option of writing a back story for characters, like City of Heroes did.  Got invited to groups over my back stories in that game so many times.
